Conversations + Speakers

Theatreworks exists to foster connection -- between the artists who create and the audiences who enjoy, between the scholars on our campus and the residents of the Pikes Peak region, and between those passionate members of our community and the work showcased on our stages. In addition to the performances, we host free conversations and speaker events to spark inquiry and weave the big questions of our art closer to our lives. All conversations and speaker events are free and open to the public.
 

Prologue Series


PROLOGUE is a series of lectures and Town Hall events that are informative, entertaining and good for the growth of our theatre and arts community.  A one-of-a-kind series sponsored by Theatreworks, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences and the Department of Humanities at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, PROLOGUE consists of theatre talks, performances, and hands-on workshops featuring some of the most important theater-makers working in the United States today.

Coffee&Cocoa Chats

Every Thursday, 45 minutes prior to the evening performance

Theatreworks hosts nationally-recognized directors and designers, as well as making its home on a campus full of world-class scholars. Before the first Thursday performances, directors and designers will give audience members a sneak-peek into creating this play’s world. Before the second and third Thursday performances, scholars from UCCS and other colleges will give us a sneak peek into a bit of their research-- sometimes with a cheeky sense of humor! Think “Carnivorous Plants” before LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS or “Dickens’ England” before A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Theatreworks will provide the coffee and cocoa-- you bring an open mind.

Framing Panels

Every first Sunday, 90 minutes prior to the matinee performance

For those seeking a deeper dive into the world of a play, we host a panel discussion with artists, scholars, and practitioners before the first Sunday performance of every production. Our panels challenges and engages each other on these themes and the contemporary relevance of the play, and then we open the conversation up to you, our audience.

Actor Conversations

Every second and third Sunday, immediately following the matinee performance

Ever wanted to know more about an actor’s process or the ins-and-outs of a particular production? Following the second and third Sunday matinee, some of the actors from the production will join our audiences for a discussion of the artistic process and the performance that everyone shared.
 

Community Conversations

Every Saturday for select productions, immediately following the matinee performance

Some of the stories we tell live in us long after the lights go down. Many resonate with questions lived by residents of the Pikes Peak region. For some of our productions, we invite community leaders and thinkers into a panel conversation with our audiences about the themes and connections in a play they just shared. It’s an open and informal way to connect more deeply with each other and with the work.
